Abstract

This study aims to examine the psychometric properties of Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale (WEMWBS), having been adapted to Turkish. In total 371 people, whose ages range from 16 to 70 and consisting of two sampling groups participated in the study. Exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory (CFA) factor analyzes were conducted to examine the construct validity of the scale and the correlation of it between similar scales was analyzed within the scope of criterion validity. Internal consistency and composite reliability coefficients were applied to measure the reliability of Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well- Being Scale. As a result of the confirmatory factor analysis, it has been observed that single-factor structure of the scale is maintained in Turkish sample, as well. The results of the analysis of the criterion-related validity of the scale show that there are significant correlations between it and other scales. The scale was found to be sufficiently reliable according to the results of the measures carried out to determine its reliability. All of these findings obtained from this study suggest that the Turkish version of WEMWBS has a single- factor structure and it is a valid and reliable instrument that can be used to assess mental well-being.
